Sharpening tools is a fundamental skill set every woodworker should learn in order to not only maintain their tools, but to aid in the enjoyment of using hand tools. In this half day class, we will explore the art and principles of sharpening several of the basic tools found in the hand tool woodworker’s toolkit utilizing the method developed by Master Craftsman Rob Cosman, Jeff's mentor.
The day will begin with lecture on sharpening theory and move to a demonstration on prepping new bench chisels and plane blades. Sharpening of bench and mortise chisels, hand plane blades, router planes, and card scrapers will follow.
Although demo tools will be available, students are highly encouraged to bring some of their own tools to sharpen if possible. This provides two benefits to the student; using your own tools will enhance familiarity and the tools will be sharp and ready to start working when you return home.
