Each student will have the opportunity to either bring in their own hand plane (recommended) or use a loaner 5 1/2" hand plane for the class.

Highly recommended!!

I recently took a Hand Plane Basics class with Jeff, and it exceeded every expectation I had going in. Jeff has a rare ability to break down what can feel like an intimidating, highly technical skill into something approachable, practical, and genuinely enjoyable.

From the start, his teaching style stood out—clear, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable without ever being overwhelming. He didn’t just explain how to use a hand plane; he helped us understand the why behind each adjustment, technique, and tool choice. That made a huge difference in building real confidence.

What I appreciated most was the hands-on focus. Jeff made sure everyone had time to practice, offered personalized guidance, and was quick to troubleshoot issues in a way that made sense. You could tell he genuinely cares about his students improving, not just getting through the material.

By the end of the class, I felt significantly more comfortable setting up, tuning, and using a hand plane effectively—something I had struggled with before. It’s clear Jeff has deep expertise, but even more importantly, he knows how to teach it.

I would highly recommend this class to anyone—from complete beginners to more experienced woodworkers looking to refine their fundamentals. It’s time well spent and a great investment in your skills.
